Introduction
4 Note to me: John (1.2) was believed to have m1. to Martha Millham.
SEAL/SEALS, thorough early records, sufficient instances of the same person being listed by both spelling exist to indicate that either spelling may be used interchangeably.
- Family of Peter Seal 1.2.1.2 - Proven
Data pertaining to Peter & Elizabeth originated from family records of birth, death & marriage. Source not known, but probably was Rosa Belle Seal Mort. N.J. born children confirmed by 1860 census. LDS microfiche also confirms David & Roberts birth dates and makes the place of birth Lebanon Twp, Hunterdon Co.
- Family of Robert Seal 1.2.1 - Very Likely.
- John & Peter have always been known as having been brothers. Both were born in Hunterdon Co. and moved to the Byron, Ill. area. Both are buried in the same cemetery lot. On 22-Dec.-1890, John signed an affidavit for Elizabeth, stating that she had married his brother Peter Seal about 1850.
- Robert Seal was the most logical candidate to have been the parent of John & Peter from the 1840 census of Hunterdon Co. This fits well with the established marriage date of Robert & Sara Ann Force Mitchel and other known children from the 1850 census for Robert & Sarah. Further, the Mitchell's are known to have been life long friends in both N.J. and Ill.
- Spruce Run Lutheran Church records have Peter Seal, same birth date, and three other children, two of which are identified in 1850 census for Robert, being baptized by Robert & Sarah in Dec.-1833.
- Letter from J. M. Dixon on descendants refers to children of Richard (Robert) Seals and Sara Force Mitchell having been residents of Byron, Ill. Reference is to John & Peter Seals.
- Death Certificate for Robert Seals lists his father as John Seals.
- Family of John Seal 1.2 - Possible
Chambers "Early Germans of New Jersey", p.484 identifies the family of John Seals & Mainated from family records of birth, death & marriage.

- Chambers "Early Germans of New Jersey", p.484 identifies the family of John Seals & Martha Milham.
- Robert can match the Robert in this family. All other candidates for Robert's parents have not been definitely excluded. Assigning Robert here is in conflict with Chambers, "Robert married twice and removed to Easton, Pa." From all appearances, Robert & Sara Force never left Hunterdon Co., at least not for long.
- Andrew B. listed in 1859 census, b.1816, with a wife Elizabeth. Children listed in 1859 census also match those listed by Chambers.
- David listed in 1860 census, born 1821.
- Silvester listed in 1850 census, born 1823.
- N. J. Death record for Silvester lists parents as John & Rachel Seal, conflict with Chambers? A John Seal married Rachel Plumby in Dec. 1808.If this John is the parent of Silvester, and this Silvester is the same Silvester referred to by Chambers, then perhaps Mary Milham was the first wife of John, and Robert was the son of John & Mary, remaining children were of John & Rachel???
- John Seal 1.0 - Likely
- Chambers "Early Germans of New Jersey", p.484 identifies two sons of John Paul Seals, John and Daniel.
- 1792 Milita identifies 4 Seals, all in Lebanon Twp. They are William, Daniel, John and Joseph. To be listed here, their ages were between 18 & 45, therefore their birth dates must be prior to 1774.If these four are same as four in ratable, they would also be old enough to appear in 1802 Ratable list.
- Ratable for 1802 list
- William
- Daniel - assign as William's brother
- John - assign as William's brother
- Joseph - assign as William's brother
- In 1827, William Seal died. His will refers to three brothers John, Joseph and Daniel. The will also implies that he had a son James.
- 1839 will of Elizabeth refers to William, son of James. 1850 census lists a James (age 53) living in household of William L. (27) Therefore, a conclusion that James was born in 1797 and his father, say 20 years earlier, prior to 1777.
- 1830 census, Lebanon Twp., lists:
- Daniel Jr. - assign to Daniel Sr.
- Daniel Sr. - assign as William's brother
- Elizabeth - assign as William's widow, refer to her will.
- James. - assign as son of William.
- Joseph - assign as William's brother
- Robert - assign as son of John
- William - unassigned
- George - unassigned
- John Paul Seal 1.0
- Chambers "Early Germans of New Jersey", p.484 says John came to America on Ship "Two Brothers, 15-Sept.-1752.
- Will of Jonathan Payne, Lebanon Twp., 21-May-1760, was witnessed by John Seal.
- 1786 tax list has Jon Seal, 50 Acres, although, this could have been the son of John Paul Seal.

- p.465 Sarah, wife of Robert Seals, d.22-Dec-1870, a.76, Fountain Grove Cemetery, Glen Gardner.
- p.528 John Seale, an English School Teacher, came to America, perhaps in 1760, and soon afterwards settled in the neighborhood of the old Taylor forge, where he rented a lot of Allen & Turner, and devoted himself to school-teaching, but his grandson Daniel cannot say where. John's son Daniel, born near "Solitude, " became a charcoal-burner under the tuition of his uncle, Philip Locke, and lives near where Mr. J. Seale now resides. ....The only child of Daniel Seale the collier, now in High Bridge, is his son Daniel.
- p.530 Daniel Seale went to school there (District No. 60, "Silverthorn") and remembers that Bemjaminin Lloyd was his teacher. In the High Bridge district school was taught at a very early period. John Seale, a school-teacher, lived at the iron-works long before 1800, and, as it is certain that he taught school, the inference is that he taught in his home locality.
- p.45 Refers to action taken by Congress against several Hunterdon Co. Loyalists, including John Seal Jr4., Herbert Millham, William Hunt, Jr., Jonathan Hunt, John Hunt, Peter Abgar, Daniel Hunt, and Samuel Slater. Amoung the charges made against some of these men was that of "opposition to the draught in Capt. Groendyck's Company," in the township of Kingwood. 26-Jun-1776.

- He (Robert) was son of William Seals.
- Insight to Ltrs 1939 & 1941.
- Suspect that they are connected somehow.
- Shirley Johns has done extensive research on the Mitchel(l) line:
- Has no record of Mary Ann Mitchell. She does have a Maria? baptized 19-Sep.-1813 dau. of John Mitchel and Sarah.Mary & Maria same person ????
- Has a family note that Sara Force Mitchel remarried Richard Seal.(note: same error Richard for Robert).
- Observations
- 1850 census for Joseph Seal confirms Birth dates for family Joseph, Mary Ann & Robert W.
No death record exists for Joseph, d.1881, in N.J.
If baptism of George Mitchel(1833) by Joseph Seal Jr. & Mary Ann is same Joseph (there are no obvious conflicts), then Joseph Jr.'s father was Joseph, not William.

- The family of Joseph W. Payne & Elsie M Seal came from Byron, Ill. thru Wava. B. Mort. In addition to the family records, the following was written:
- "Aunt Mary Burker died 22-Apr-1926 - 99 yrs. Abraham Payne was 112 when he passed(.) Great Grandfather Payne was Mary Barker's brother. Great Grandfather Payne had white curley hair which to his sholders. Grandmother Seal was Elizabeth Kellihan Seal. Grandmother Payne was Sara Black. She died 2 weeks after Grandpa Payne in the Civil War. He was buried on the Sherman March in 1866."
Mitchell(s)
The Seal/Mitchell connection is close and important to understanding the family of John Seal and Sara Force (Mitchell). Sara Force, dau. of Joseph Force, was first married to Joseph (John) Mitchell, and then Robert Seal. The Mitchells and Seals further intermarried, remained close and removed to the Byron, Ill. area.
The following data is extracted from the letter of Belle Mitchell, see prior section, and research of Ms. Shirley Johns. No other proofs, for the Mitchells, are offered here.
