Welty Family Research
Introduction
*Marriage
*
This document is primarily centered around the household of Elias Welty because of the close association of this family with that of William and Mary Elizabeth.
Two of James E. Welty's children married children of William Mort. A third child of William, John Emory Mort, went from Md. to Byron to work for Jake Welty, also a son of James E. Welty. A fourth son married Manda Sharrer, Raymond Sharrer's Aunt.
The basis of this information comes from a family sheet in the possessation of Evelyn Sies. The source believed to have been Cora Welty Weant, daughter of Lucretia Mort and James Elias Wealty.
James is reported to be the son of John Welty, born Eppingen Germany about 1722. However, in the 1850 Census, he is enumerated in the household of Casper and Francis Welty. Also, Casper and Francis reported their birthplace to be Pa.
The family sheet, above, refers to James Elias Welty Sr. However, all enumeration refer only to him as Elias, other members of the family have all names or initials listed in the enumerations. It is likely that his only name was Elias.
This family probably resided, at least since 1850, in the Emmitsburg District of Frederick Co. Md. and in the section near to the College and Toms Creek Methodist Church.
